A silent entry

A few recent pictures I took in the neighbourhood:

Why is this flower called “forget-me-not”? Is it because it’s blue?

I love Forget-me-not flowers, they are so pretty and light. I don't know why they are called that way... perhaps it is because they grow everywhere, so if someone gives you a bunch of these, you'll remember the person who gave them to you everywhere you go.
The martenitza! I have one on my cherry tree and the old one I am wearing still, because I have yet to see a stork in London eh eh

Vinni is always a cutie. Is the cat just a stray cat?

Such a sweet comment :) But that is no surprise when the comment is from you ;)

Aha, it is a stray cat. Lots of them in the neighbourhood and my blog would’ve been flooded with cat pics if I only remembered to take the camera with me on my walks with Vincent.

Umm, Vincent…you know that the shortest way to a pet owner’s heart is to praise the pet ;) To me he’s the prettiest of all dogs…as you can guess lol But it is almost impossible to get a decent picture of him-there were too many pictures of his butt and just a few of…his other end :)

BTW, this year I haven’t seen a stork either! They are not an extinct species yet…are they? *confused & worried*

Interesting theory on the “forget-me-not” name but I thought it might be the blue colour because “blue” = “sad” and the name sounds somewhat desperate…I almost put “forget-me-not” as a title to the London entry. Forget me not ‘cause I’ll be back; forget me not, period. I hope I’m more tired than sad right now.

What do you mean Vera, you mean to say I am 'sweet'? Me? I am as hard as steel! ahahahahah actually no, I'm not.

Your theory about the FMN might actually be the right one...I didn't think about the meaning of the colour. Ahhhh brava Vera.

Umm, I suppose any modern urban-based human being has to have claws of steel ready for action as a part of the survival kit :) But they don’t have to show all the time as a warning sign ;)

Google comes to the rescue…as always ;)

"The Legend of the Forget-Me-Not:There are many myths and legends attached to the naming of the Forget-Me-Not flower; a German legend refers to the small, yet unnamed plant who cried out to God, “Forget me not, Lord!”.

However, the most romantic legend as to how the Forget-Me-Not gained its name is a medieval legend.
A knight was said to be choosing some flowers for his sweetheart, who was walking with him, when he fell into the river, due to the weight of his armor; the knight is said to have thrown the blue flowers to his sweetheart on the river bank crying, "Forget-Me-Not"

This is a flower connected with romance and tragic fate. It was often worn by ladies as a sign of faithfulness and enduring love."
Hmm...
:)
